Les Alpes Queenstown

This place, I believe has been a real find. Not really a brunch experience but totally worth a mention in the blog.
While snooping around Queenstown for a sneaky afternoon Java and Goo I stumbled across Les Alpes. A Patisserie in Queenstown this has gotta be worth a look. Being that afternoon Brunch was not an option, a pastry and coffee were. The coffee was by Allpress so we were off to a good start there and I was not disappointed a good 7/10, the cup may have been a little large for a full bodied taste but did allow you to linger while eating your pastry. The selection of treats on display was not extensive but you could see the quality on offer as superb and uppon tasting my almond and chocolate croissant (cannot pronounce the correct name) I was well rewarded. The staff are extreemly friendly and the service excellent. I look forward to returning again perhaps for a Brunch or Evening dining with my beautiful Wife. Either would be a delight, I am sure of it.

Overall 8/10

Ombrellos Caffe & Bar

I had high expectations for this place and judging by the Flat white I had after a 20 minute wait  it was going to be a pleasant dining experiance.

Unfortunately the food for our party of six was a tad slow arriving for what was essentially an empty cafe with one other group in attendance. I was a bit underwhelmed buy my choice of a 'Ombrellos traditional fry up'. Very traditional indeed, not very different than what one could achive at home quite easily. The bacon however was superb with a good flavour and very pleasant texture. The other diners in our party had, to my eye more appealing dishes and I felt disapointed with my choice as it was bland (Bacon excluded of course).

I will leave the other members of our party to comment on their dishes if the wish but the Rosemary infused mushrooms looked the pick of the bunch.

What detracted from the meal the most was the food arrived on cold plates in a cafe that needed the heater turned up too. I would have thought this would have been one of the basics for a cafe. Our food quickly became cold and one needed to eat quickly to  get the most enjoyment possible. Our youngest diner at five years old was the last to be served by a good five minutes resulting in a multitude of 'Is mine coming' questions, surley the littlies should get theirs first?

The coffee to finish was a disapointment unfortunately compared to the first effort as I think the young lady making them was getting very busy as the cafe was filling rapidly and she bagan to rush a little.
The manager noticed this to her credit and removed the coffes component of our bill and arranged for more staff to assist.

+ Friendly Staff and pleasant decor.

- Disapointing food.
